Basement Waterproofing Solutions

Before We Get Started
Before we get started, we always take pictures of the areas we will be working in and measurements of items being removed to ensure anything disturbed can be restored with no guesswork. Some items may have been already removed by the homeowner or subcontractors. Our foreman and owner of the company always invite and encourage the homeowner to walk around the property before we get started to ensure all aspects of the project have been discussed. This gives the homeowner a chance to point out areas of concern, make minor adjustments, and ensure everyone is on the same page. This is also a great time to talk about the timelines of the project. Our operators have plenty of experience working in tight areas, ensuring your home and its surroundings are in good hands.
Basement Waterproofing Process

Once the area is free from obstructions, we begin to remove the dirt from against your foundation wall. One of the many things that set us apart from the competition is that we haul away 90% of the native soil and replace it with clean, granular sand. After the wall is exposed, it is thoroughly cleaned with a pressure washer and then dried.

We then do a close visual inspection for any additional damage. After the wall is clean, dry, and inspected, we apply a primer coat to ensure optimal adhesion of the waterproofing membrane. The primer is then allowed time to set.

The next step is to install the waterproofing membrane. We use Mel-Rol, a high-quality material made by W.R. Meadows. For extra protection, we terminate the top and bottom seams with pointing mastic to ensure no water or dirt can get behind the membrane. In some cases, a termination strip is used at the top of the waterproofing membrane. Styrofoam is then installed to protect the membrane and give your home a thermal break and additional insulation. There are different Styrofoam options available. The drain tile is now installed. (Please see the drain tile tab for more information.) The drain tile will need to lead to daylight or be directly connected to a sump pit. (please see the sump pump tab for more information) Once the drain tile is completed, it’s finally time to backfill your foundation. We always use clean granular sand when backfilling foundations to ensure that the sand allows water to flow to the drain tile without plugging the drain tile with sediment. It’s also imperative that the sand drains well, keeping the sand dry for when the ground freezes. The sand will not expand when it freezes due to its low moisture level and keep your foundation from walls from cracking and bowing.

The last step is the restoration process. This can vary from project to project but in most cases, topsoil and grass seed are installed over all disturbed areas.
